Get rich in 2017! Take Tiger at 20-1 to win the Masters
Get rich in 2017! Take Tiger at 20-1 to win the Masters The most important thing to know about the coming year in sports: He gets another green jacket. And you get rich taking the 20-1 odds Las Vegas bookmakers are laying on Tiger Woods to win the Masters. Things get interesting when you bump into Floyd "Money" Mayweather leaving the betting window. Money: "How's it going?" You (fanning out $100 bills): "Great!" Money: "Save some for October. I'm coming back ... against some guy named McGregor."

An entertaining year in golf inside and outside the ropes
An entertaining year in golf inside and outside the ropes Jason Day ends the year at No. 1 in the world ranking, another indicator of how much and for how long Tiger Woods dominated golf. This is the eighth straight year that a different player was at No. 1 in the final world ranking — Woods in 2009, Lee Westwood in 2010, Luke Donald in 2011, Rory McIlroy in 2012, Woods in 2013, McIlroy in 2014, Jordan Spieth in 2015. Dating to 1998, Woods was at No. 1 in the final ranking in 11 out of 12 years.

A year in review based on every club in the bag
A year in review based on every club in the bag The year began with PGA Tour rookie Smylie Kaufman hitting the opening tee shot into the blue horizon at Kapalua. It ended 319 days later when PGA Tour rookie Mackenzie Hughes rolled in an 18-foot par putt from the fringe to win at Sea Island. One way to look back on 2016 is through every club in the bag — not necessarily the best shots, but those that shaped the year.

Byrd brings positive attitude to minor leagues of golf
Byrd brings positive attitude to minor leagues of golf With five victories, Jonathan Byrd had such a productive PGA Tour career that spending any time on the developmental Web.com Tour never crossed his mind. His only stop in the minor leagues was in 2001, so long ago that it then was known as the Buy.com Tour. A year after his playoff victory in the 2011 Tournament of Champions at Kapalua, however, Byrd had wrist surgery. He missed three months to start 2013, and his game and confidence slowly eroded to the point that he was trying to make cuts, make money and keep his job.

Tiger Woods will be lead designer of $30 million golf complex on Chicago’s South Side
Tiger Woods will be lead designer of $30 million golf complex on Chicago’s South Side CHICAGO — On a gorgeous August day, Tiger Woods halted his top-secret visit to Chicago’s South Side to ask this question: Where are the kids? Woods and Mark Rolfing led a motorcade of a dozen golf carts at Jackson Park and South Shore, two city-run, century-old courses with enormous potential. Nearby, teenagers shot hoops and played tennis, not golf. Where are the kids? “He said it 10 times,” said Rolfing, the NBC/Golf Channel analyst and DeKalb, Ill., native.

Major champions and their major moments
Major champions and their major moments From 20 feet away, Dustin Johnson was just trying to hit the green. From 190 yards, he was going at the flag. Henrik Stenson made a 50-foot putt across the 15th green at Royal Troon and found as much value in the putt he made from 4 feet on the next hole. The long and short of every golf season is defined by major championships. This year brought a collapse at the Masters, chaos over a ruling at the U.S. Open, a duel at the British Open and a marathon at the PGA Championship. There were signature shots from each, and a shot that held particular significance to each winner.
